Garden Tool Grip for Thala.
-3D Printed PLA.
Year / 2019

Development Process
As part of a fourth-year project, in collaboration with FIXPERTS organization and ALYN Hospital
in Jerusalem for children with disabilities, my project partner and I were given the opportunity
to help a lovely 11-year-old girl named Thala.
Thala lost her fingers as a result of a fire, and our goal was to design a solution for her to "hold" tools so she could work in the therapeutic garden in the hospital.
We worked with her to create a special grip for holding her tools so that she can work
comfortably and independently in the garden.

the project took part in the 2019 "Broken Nature" exhibit at Milan's Triennale Museum.

It also won the RCA Helen Hamlyn Fixperts Award for 2019
in London and became part of their permanent collection.
“I think they did a great job, as trying to replicate fine motor skills of the human hand
(even to a degree) is extremely difficult.
They showed great user testing, included the failures in iteration, and came up with a very usable product”.
